Firm spell holds, Sensex goes up to 3195.94Share prices climbed up further on the Bombay Stock Exchange following continuous buying support from domestic institutional investors and speculators today. Report of the good monsoon all over the country, Centre's clearance to 68 investment proposals of foreign institutional investors and end of political uncertainty at the Centre were the various reasons for the ongoing firm spell on the country's premier bourse, leading BSE brokers said. Share prices at the National Stock Exchange lost the early gains on the BSE due to selling pressure from operators towards the fag end of trading in view of weekly settlement. Business activity was quiet in wake of Id-e-Milad holiday as banks, call money and interbank forex market remained closed in Bombay today. Reflecting the trend, the BSE Sensitive Index opened at 3186.85, touched the day's high of 3241.90 points and declined to touch the day's low of 3181.56 before closing at 3195.94 points, showing a net gain of 17.63 points against the previous close of 3178.31 points. Among the major gainers, cement giant ACC firmed up by Rs 23.45 to Rs 1261, Bajaj Auto hardened by Rs 0.75 to Rs 564.50, market leader ITC gained by Rs 2.75 to Rs 653.25, L&T up by Rs 2.80 to Rs 221.10, M&M earned by Rs 3.40 to Rs 206.60, Reliance moved up by Re 1 to Rs 145, State Bank of India flared up by Rs 7.70 to Rs 216.70, Tisco by Rs 1.20 to Rs 122.80 and Telco closed higher by Rs 2.40 to Rs 161 . Hindustan Lever scrip lost by Rs 9.75 to Rs 1522.75. The broad-based BSE-100 Index closed higher by 12.13 points to 1407.41 points against the previous close of 1395.28 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices also firmed up by 3.38 and 1.32 points to 321.14 and 125.92 points against the previous close of 317.76 and 124.60 points respectively. Total turnover on the BSE rose to Rs 8.67 billion from the Monday's turnover of Rs 6.23 billion. ITC posted highest turnover of Rs 1.43 billion, followed by State Bank of India Rs 1.32 billion, Tata Tea (Rs 630.6 million), Reliance (Rs 547.6 million), Castrol (Rs 500.5 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 481.1 million), Satyam Computers (Rs 424.8 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 384.2 million), Telco (Rs 235.7 million), NIIT (Rs 183.6 million), L&T (Rs 168.6 million), MTNL (Rs 165.1 million), BHEL (Rs 164.7 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 142.8 million) and Tisco (Rs 120 million).
