NSE-50 Index

Pivotals firm up, Nifty up 18 points, 917.25 points

Pivotal prices firmed up on last day of settlement following hectic short covering by the bear operators and good buying support from financial institutions on the National Stock Exchange today.

Newly introduced S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 899.10 points, touched day's high of 920 points, low of 897.65 points and closed at 917.25 points showing a net gain of 17.9 points as against the previous close of NSE-50 Index of of 899.35 points.

The CNX Defty Index finished at 747.20 points as against previous close of Dollar NSE-50 Index of 732.35 points gaining 14.85 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior Index closed at 1433.90 points as compared to yesterday's (Midcap Index) close of 1396.70 points, increasing 37.20 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 14.61 billion involving 54.93 million shares in 211,774 trades. The debentures traded value was Rs 2.07 million.

About 530 scrips moved up, 429 declined and 91 scrips remained unchanged in the exchange. About 35 securities hit their price bands.

Among the top gainers were Telco rose to Rs 127.1 from Rs 117.65, ACC moved up to Rs 1317.40 from Rs 1248.35, IPCL increased to Rs 49.70 from Rs 47.15, Tisco to Rs 106.30 from Rs 100.85 and BHEL to Rs 215.45 from Rs 205.

Losers were Grasim which declined to Rs 215.75 from Rs 226.20, MRPL came down to Rs 15.25 from 15.55, IDBI to Rs 61.85 from Rs 62.75, Indo Gulf eased to Rs 31.40 from Rs 31.70 and Oriental Bank to Rs 47.55 from Rs 47.75.

Satyam Computers registered highest turnover of Rs 3.5 billion in both BSE and NSE followed ITC Rs 288.13, SBI Rs 984.9 million, Pentafour Software Rs 915.9 million, RIL Rs 694.1 million, ACC Rs 554.1 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 459.9 million, Castrol Rs 417.9 million, Telco Rs 310.1 million, Infosys Tech Rs 304.3 million, Tata Tea Rs 278.9 million, L&T Rs 260.5 million, BFL Software Rs 256.3 million, BHEL Rs 219.4 million, Tisco Rs 197.8 million, Silverline Rs 139.3 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 125.7 million, Digital Equipment Rs 123.8 million, Dr Reddy's Rs 107.7 million, Hindustan Lever Rs 107.5 million, MTNL Rs 106.4 million, HCL-HP Rs 106 million, BSES Rs 100.2 million, Bank of Baroda Rs 83 million and Square D Software Rs 64.1 million.
