NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains 22.5 points

Pivotal prices rose further on the National Stock Exchange on the last day of current settlement cycle following buying support from financial institutions and general investors.

The NSE-50 index closed at 1002.35 points showing a net gain of 22.50 points as against the previous close of 979.85 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index finished at 881.70 points over yesterday's close of 857.85 points, gaining 23.85 points.

The Midcap index settled down at 1113.90 points as compared to last trading day's close of 1103.60 points, increasing by 10.30 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 14.2 billion involving 52.5 million shares.

ITC clocked the highest turnover of Rs 4.2 billion followed by Tata Tea Rs 2.7 billion, RIL Rs 1.6 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.4 billion, ACC Rs 739.9 million, Castrol Rs 578.3 million, TELCO Rs 344.4 million, Colgate Rs 293.9 million, TISCO Rs 281.2 million, Hind Lever Rs 248.9 million, MTNL Rs 231 million, P and G Rs 201.6 million, Infosys Tech Rs 191 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 133.5 million, BHEL Rs 97.9 million, L and T Rs 78.9 million, Satyam Comp Rs 64.2 million, Nicholas Pir Rs 58.2 million, BSES Rs 57.4 million, Pentsfware Rs 51.9 million, Corp Bank Rs 51.1 million, Sterlite Rs 48 million, Guj Amb Cement Rs 34.5 million, Hero Honda Rs 26.8 million and ICICI Rs 25.2 million.

The top gainers were Glaxo, MTNL, Ashok Ley, Hind Lever, TELCO and losers were Cochin Refin, Thermax, IPCL, HDFC and Ranbaxy.
