QAD Inc shifts gears in India

Email this story to a friend.

QAD Inc of California has teamed up with the Bangalore-based Linc Software, the Pune-based Thirdware Solutions and other companies to provide India-centric Entrerprisewide Resource Planning options.

Using these partnerships, the company hopes to forward, including the marketing of its flagship product MGP/PRO. QAD also scratched its earlier deal with Mafatlal Consultancy Services.

The company has been doing well in India, growing 83 per cent in 1997 over the previous year. QAD bettered its revenues 36 per cent, to $ 172.2 million for the year ended January 31, up against $ 126.4 million last year. The company, which went public last August, brought its profits up from $1 million last year to $ 9.9 million.

QAD is apparently pushing hard to achieve prime position in India, hoping to use the edge it claims to have over other ERP vendors like SAP and BaaN with the speed at which its software is implemented. That speed, said company sources, was their main advantage in the competitive Indian market.
