Email this story to a friend.

The department of telecommunications has decided to transfer 75 general managers, 30 per cent of the total number of general managers, as part of its bid to shake up the administration to bring about more even development of telecom services in the country.

and DoT officials are awaiting the decision of Union Communication Minister Buta Singh.

Sources said the move could be intended to transfer officials in progressive sections to those that have yet to improve. But others say such a sudden reorganisation could actually have a bad effect on the department itself. The suggestion came from the Telecom Commission human resources development adviser.

Put together by Rajiv Gandhi acolyte Sam Pitroda, the policy for transfers and postings in the DoT, calls for transfers only if there are internal differences, if the official is promoted, opts for transfer or is suspected of underhand dealings.
