This is the first time that an information technology buyer's exhibition is being held on such a large scale in the country.

The Carnival, held in association with computing majors like Intel and Microsoft, would offer a range of computing options to the public.

It would reach the remotest corners of the country, a company release claimed. Besides the metros, the Carnival would reach residents of Gangtok, Shillong and Siliguri in the Northeast; Karnal, Bhatinda and Aligarh in the North; Erode and Kaur in the South and Nagpur and Surat in the West among other such places.

To make the offerings at the Carnival affordable and easier to purchase, the Frontline Division has arranged finance option for the customers at the Carnival venues itself.

Designed as a one-stop shop for home and small-office users, the special attraction at the Carnival would be HCL's indigenous brands, Busybee and Beanstalk, incorporating Intel's next-generation Pentium II® process at 266 MHz.

Additionally, through HCL's tieups with global IT giants like Toshiba and Dragon Systems Inc, the carnival would have on display top-of-line computing options including hardware, software and peripheral products.

These include multimedia CD-ROMs from NIIT, support packages from Microsoft and Toshiba notebook computers.

Announcing the launch, S V Sriram, principal operating officer, personal systems group, Frontline Division, HCL Infosystems, said "Developing the personal computing market is a critical focus area for HCL. By organising the Carnival at such a large scale, HCL aims to demonstrate the depth to which PC penetration can be achieved. In developing specialised opportunities for the home and small-office user, through an environment that encourages first-hand experience and therefore speedier decision making, the Carnival not only recognises distinctive user needs but also strengthens HCL's long-standing relationship with customers."

Kanwaljit Singh, general manager, Intel Asia Electronics, says, "HCL has been a pioneer in promoting the usage of the latest technology. Their range of systems, including mainstream desktops based on the Pentium II processor and entry level desktops based on the recently launched Celeron processor, offer choice and great value to consumers."

The Frontline Division of HCL Infosystems markets national and international brands of computer systems and peripherals within the country. It specialises in distribution, an important aspect of the marketing mix that is essential for the success of a product, especially in a high-tech field like IT.
