HCL Carnival bags orders worth Rs 93 millionA staff writer in BombayThe Frontline Division, the distribution arm of HCL Infosystems Limited, has announced that its 4th Grand Computer Carnival ended with orders worth Rs 93 million from sales of personal computers and related products.
With a total sale of Rs 37.5 million of computing products, the northern region has emerged as the largest contributor, a company statement claimed. The majority of sales during the Carnival have been of HCL's indigenously manufactured PC brands, the Busybee and the Beanstalk, incorporating Intel's Pentium processor at 200 MHz. Region-wise, computation of orders reveal the southern region's contribution at Rs 28 million, the East at Rs 16 million and the West, including Bombay, at Rs 12 million. With sales of Rs 20 million, New Delhi emerged as the leading contributor to the orders gained at the two-day carnival. S V Sriram, principal operating officer, personal systems group, Frontline Division, HCL Infosystems, said, "These orders are indeed a significant indicator of HCL's success in market creation through innovative penetration strategies such as the Grand Computer Carnival. We, however, place as much emphasis on the growth in strength and the changing profile of visitors to the Carnival since its inception as this underlines the need in the market for exposure to information technology." The Grand Computer Carnival has effected a significant expansion in the reach of the division's distribution network encompassing 800 resellers in 300 cities, the company statement claimed. Beside the metros, the Carnival reached remoter places. Gangtok, Shillong and Siliguri in the Northeast; Karnal, Bhatinda and Bulandshahar in the North; Calicut and Dharwad in the South and Nagpur and Surat in the West were among the 81 cities covered simultaneously on June 13 and 14. |
