HCL to set up Unicentre unitThe HCL Group is setting up a dedicated centre for Unicentre TNG, the Computer Associates business solutions software. The centre would carry out development and support for the package that accounts for 40 per cent of the $4.5 billion business of the world's second largest software company.
The centre will develop solutions for CA's flagship Unicenter TNG that is an application that brings together and integrates heterogeneous computing environments into a single network. As per the agreement signed between HCL and CA in April this year, the HCL's dedicated centre would provide a broad spectrum of professional services to Unicenter TNG customers through HCL offices in 19 countries worldwide. The areas to be addressed by the HCL centre would include education and training, professional services like implementation and global rollout support and onsite and offshore consulting services. HCL had proposed the idea of such a centre to CA President and Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Kumar when he visited India in December 1997 and by April 1998, the agreement was initialled. ''The centre would be up and running in another two months,'' senior HCL officers promised. HCL, known to be a domestic hardware vendors till about 1995-96, has begun shifting focus towards exports and software solutions. The ratio of exports to total turnover changed from 23 per cent in 1995-96 to 30 per cent in 1996-97 and 40 per cent in 1997-98. The game plan is to bring exports to 50 per cent of the group business in the next two years. UNI |
