IT industry moving to AP, claims ministerMany information technology companies are moving from Karnataka to the "most industry-friendly" environment of Andhra Pradesh, Major Industries Minister Basheeruddin Babu Khan told the Andhra Pradesh assembly today. The high tech city and the Infocity spread over 158 acres had great potential and was attracting major information technology players, he said, adding that the tax holiday the government offered had served as an additional incentive. The minister told Dr M Peddarattaiah and four other Telugu Desam members that of the 324 proposals with a total investment of Rs 134.19 billlion received from foreign entrepreneurs, 86 industries -- with investments totalling Rs 14.98 billion -- had already begun production. Khan said 65 units were in various stages of completion and that work on another 140 units were in the initial stages. Khan said the Malaysian government had also agreed in principle to locate an unit of their proton car in the state. It had also shown interest in investing in infrastructure development like roads and ports, he said. An industrial park would be set up at Parvada near Visakhapatnam port city and the government was considering setting up similar parks in Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda towns, he said. -Compiled from the Indian media |
