India Satcom to focus now on communications softwareSoftware to the fore, is the new cry at India Satcom Ltd, which till recently prided itself only on the fact that it is India's first Very Small Aperture Terminal manufacturer. The company's just restructured its business to increase focus on its communications software business, even planning to make the wing a separate company later. India Satcom plans to offer customised Enterprisewide Resource Planning solutions for the Indian industry and to provide Web-related software. While the company started off as a VSAT manufacturer, circumstances have made it become more oriented towards communication solutions, company sources said, adding that initially the software development wing was used only to meet in-house needs. The company hopes to corner a large percentage of the country's communication software exports, expected to rise from the current 11 per cent to 25 per cent over the next five years. It also hopes to get into areas like voice mail, interactive voice response and electronically transferring funds for banks. ITI has a 49 per cent stake in the company, UTI 11 per cent, and Equatorial Pacific International Co of the Netherlands a 40 per cent stake. -Compiled from the Indian media |
