CA chose HCL because it felt it reacted faster and had high quality services. HCL chairman Shiv Nadar said HCL would reach in three years the $ 100 million mark it took TCS 20 years.
The CA-HCL deal is part of CA's indirect support services for customers.
Learning from past mistakes, CA is now looking to acquire small and medium-sized consultancies rather than big companies. Unicentre has over 10,000 clients today and Infosys has just signed a big order worth $ 4.4 millions over nine years. This calls for special support infrastructure, to be provided by an infusion of new staffers. And the company now hopes to acquire smaller firms established in management consultancy, reselling and systems integration. These would be fused with the inhouse Professional Services Organisation, meant to end service requirements of customers, to extend services across markets.
Meanwhile CA-TCG Software CA's joint venture with the Chatterjee Group, has received clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to invest $ 30 million in a software development centre in Calcutta. This is part of a $100 million investment planned over five years in India.
