Pentafour software profits up

Pentafour Software and Exports Limited has announced a turnover of Rs 2.85 billion for the year ended March 31, 1998, up 67.17 per cent from the previous year's figures.

Of the revenues, 95.49 per cent came from exports, the rest from domestic sales. Gross profit rose by 93.67 per cent from Rs 555 million the previous year to Rs 1.07 billion after providing for higher depreciation and interest.

Seventy-two per cent of the software export revenues came from the US and the remaining 28 per cent from the rest of the world. Software development projects and products contributed Rs 1.97 billion (69.34 per cent), on-site consultancy Rs 788.2 million (27.7 per cent), and computer education and training Rs 84.2 million (2.96 per cent). The multimedia business has contributed 48.5 per cent of the earnings, a percentage of it coming from the animation film Sindbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists.

The company's PentaBank software is being marketed through Tata-IBM along with the IBM AS/400. Pentafour is working with IBM and EDS on several Y2K projects and has implemented several ERP, BPCS and Oracle Financial projects. It has also set up training courses on SAP and BPCS and putting together ERP projects for Sumitomo, TVS-Suzuki and Span Eicher among others.

In two years, it is planning to almost double its manpower from the current 1,400 personnel.

Pentafour has also set up a 8,000 sq feet unit in Hollywood to cater to customers like Walt Disney, Sony and Rich Animation. It plans to complete around 30 per cent of the projects there and 70 per cent in Madras.
