Email this story to a friend. The Telecom Commission has decided to create a specialised marketing wing to match aggressive competitive trends being foreseen in the telecom industry, an official announcement said today.

It said a full-strength meeting of the Commission held in New Delhi agreed with a long-held view of the Department of Telecommunications that a dedicated marketing wing has become imperative with the entry of private

The Commission also decided to expand the satellite-based closed user group service to enable banks and other financial institutions to participate in the national stock exchange network, the announcement said.

Today's decision to set up the marketing wing at DoT's Delhi headquarters and in "some telecom circles'' overtakes oft-repeated proposals for conversion of DoT into a corporation.

The full-strength Telecom Commission, headed by secretary, DoT, has four of his departmental deputies as full-time members apart from secretaries of the departments of finance, electronics, industrial policy and promotion and the member-secretary in the Planning Commission.
