NIIT to design curriculum for Malaysian university

courses of UNITAR, Malaysia's first virtual university.

"This collaborative partnership marks only the beginning of our intended relationship," said Dr Syed Othman Alhabshi, vice-president of UNITAR.

"We strongly feel that we could work together towards becoming an important centre for courseware production, setting the standards and protocol for future courseware needs in education and training," he continued.

Dr Syed is confident that as a private university and the first of its kind in the region, UNITAR has the potential to become a leader in this business.

UNITAR will set the standards and quality as a benchmark for others to compare with and follow.

Dr Syed said that the virtual university is a new paradigm amidst the rapidly changing technological and socio-economic environment.

The courseware will be available for IT, mathematics, English and management subjects for the first intake of 300 students in September 1998.

At the signing ceremony, R S Pawar, vice-chairman and co-founder of NIIT, commented that Malaysia has an excellent track record of converting its vision into reality. He was confident of UNITAR's success.
