Indo-Bangla customs check post to be computerisedThe customs office at the Indo-Bangladeshi border check post at Petrapol near Bongaon in the Indian state of West Bengal is to be computerised.Besides, the systems at Petrapol would be linked with headquarters in Calcutta by the end of July.
The computerised customs office would help in the smoother transaction of trade and quick disposal of passenger traffic, a release claimed. The Dhaka-Calcutta bus service is bound to put added pressure on the customs officers. The computers would help them speedily check exim documents, prepare regular returns, charge duties and maintain related data. The decision to computerise the office was taken after increased exim activities between the two countries following various bilateral trade agreements and the South Asian Preferential Trade Agreement amongst the SAARC countries.
