PR firm offers Y2K related image management solutionAparna Krishnan in BombayAbacus Integrated Corporate Communications is a public relations company with ideas. It is hoping to exploit a niche business by tackling issues related to the impact of millennium bug on corporate image and reputation.
The need to address these issues is immense because most corporations, in spite of knowing the problem, have delayed corrective action, he says. Abacus plans to take up the communications problem through a task force comprising mass communicators and IT specialists. The task force has been operational for the past two months. It comprises about 25 experts divided into groups of 3 to 5 that work with individual clients. The task force would work on creating a Y2K communications programme for every client that would involve commissioning a research to pinpoint the issues and devising a report specifying the objectives. The strategy is outlined and a presentation is made to communicate the root plan. This follows an implementation programme that is time-bound. The awareness level is broadened by sensitising the issues for the corporations. Abacus would be a communicator and mediator at all levels of management and staff. It plans to hold workshops and one-on-one sessions through mass media. The company's viewpoint in the post Y2K period would be to effectively communicate reduction of misinterpretations risk. Abacus claims it is the only PR company that offers this unique concept of Y2K related image management services. |
