Small software units asked to focus on exportsSoftware Technology Parks of India Director B V Naidu has exhorted small and medium industries in the software area to consolidate and concentrate on their export to exploit the prevailing situation in the international market.Inaugurating the 'CITIL House', a new millennium infrastructure of Citicorp Information Technology Industries Limited in Bangalore, he said if India were to achieve the export target of $ 20 billion by 2008, it would be necessary that small software units should improve their performance over multinationals and larger industries.
Naidu said it is necessary that ancillary and secondary line products in the software area should move to small cities, rather than concentrating in Bangalore alone. With the government developing Mysore, Hubli and other cities like Mangalore and Belgaum for this purpose, SMEs have a better chance to cash on the advantage, he added. CITIL CEO R Ravisankar, in his address, said the opening up of the CITIL House is an important milestone in CITIL's aggressive growth plans. The new centre has economically designed workplace, state of the art networking technology, international Datacom and telecommunication links and the latest array of servers and workstations, he said. CITIL began its operations here during 1993 and expanded to Bombay. CITIL, which recorded a growth of 73 per cent, notched up revenue of Rs 1.43 billion during the last financial year. UNI |
