Naidu pushes for state-level e-lawsThe Andhra Pradesh government will issue an ordinance to make cyber laws applicable for all other government departments on the lines of a similar legislation applicable to the stamps and registration department, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said today.Naidu was speaking at a seminar on 'electronic commerce and new telecom policy' in Madras. The seminar was organised by the Associate Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Naidu said pressure should be brought upon the central government to permit Internet telephony, which according to the example of a coast-to-coast call in the United States given by him was a hundredth the cost of a normal telephone call. He said the government was making the biggest mistake by using telecom to earn money instead of using it as a tool for economic growth and for solving the common man's problems. He said e-commerce had tremendous potential for creating jobs in the country, as many Western countries would like to take advantage of skilled manpower available in the country. Naidu said the multinational General Electric was contemplating opening of a backoffice in Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion, Vittal said the country should pay attention to five 'Cs' - computer density, communications, content, costs and cyber laws - to facilitate the growth of e-commerce in the country. Assocham President K P Singh said regulatory structures that defy economic forces would not survive in the country and called for policy initiatives that would spread teledensity at the lowest possible cost.
