Completely wired bank opens in Surat

A fully computerised bank with safe-deposit vaults, the first of its kind in India, was launched today in Surat. Shree Vikas Cooperative Bank Limited was opened in the Salabatpura area of Surat city.

Chairman Kalpesh D Jariwala said the main objective of the bank is to provide quick and efficient service to the diamond and textile industries of the city.

Jariwala said the bank would provide services from 9.30 am to 4 pm, two and a half hours more than the daily schedule of common nationalised banks.

The chairman said that the bank has acquired a license for operation from the Reserve Bank of India. Currently, the bank's working capital is Rs 3.72 million with 2,527 members. It has targeted to increase the working capital to Rs 10 million by the end of the current fiscal.

Jariwala said their service would have some unique features such as the bank's cheque book which would contain an extra carbon copy after each cheque. Telebanking is another feature being offered to its members. The teller payment systems limit is Rs 20,000 and a separate inquiry counter is to be set up soon. Members could also have their monthly bank statement on fax on request for no extra charge.

Jariwala claimed that very soon the bank would be open on Sundays too.
