LEAP software jumps into Bombay market

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Pune, launched a CD-ROM version of its 'LEAP personal publisher' in Bombay today.

Vijay Bhatkar, C-DAC's executive director, told a press conference that the package has been developed keeping the home PC users in mind.

LEAP, the Windows based word processor which is developed to handle all Indian scripts with equal ease, has language intelligence and includes some useful language tools such as spell checkers for Marathi, Gujarati or Hindi, Bhatkar said.

LEAP personal publisher is ideally suited for the 'small office home office' segment and specially for the home PC users, he said adding that the PC population in the market segment has shown considerable growth.

The basic requirement of the SOHO user is word-processing and many of them want to do it in their own languages or mother tongue.

Currently available solutions cater more to the high-end users hence they are expensive, he claimed.

The software is to be extended to all major cities in India. We are also making the software available in the US during the world Marathi Congress in Boston from July 4 to 7. There it would be priced at $59.95.
