Dr Solomon to make house callsShariq Siddiqui in BombayA new anti-virus package has hit the Indian home PC user market. HomeGuard, the home version of the famous Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit, was launched here today. The all-in-one home security solution is being marketed by IT Secure, sole distributors of Dr Solomon's products in South Asia. HomeGuard is being aimed at the home and SOHO segment in India. The product has been simplified for home use; the same goes for the price. Priced at Rs 2,250, it claims to protect Windows-based PCs from over 11,000 viruses. HomeGuard is designed to work behind the scenes while a user works on his computer. Every file and disk in use, and every email sent or received is scanned for viruses. When a virus is encountered, it is immediately cleaned without any active effort by the user. With the Internet and email becoming a major source of viruses in India too, IT Secure hopes the fast growing band of Internet users will be attracted to the product. Peter Theobald, CEO, IT Secure is confident of achieving sales of 10,000 units by the end of the year. Product upgrades via the Internet will be introduced soon, he says. Meanwhile, the company is offering round-the-clock telephone support. IT Secure has been marketing various security and data recovery software since it was set up in November 1995. With the launch of HomeGuard, the company hopes to add Rs 225 million to its turnover. |
