Nexus launches new range of PCs

Sunaina Mandeen, Director, Nexus Computers, said the machine runs at 200 MHz and has been configured as a graphics workstation. The 6AT6-200 can easily outperform the much costlier industrial strength workstation computers, she claimed. It can be equally effective as a heavy-duty number-crunching and data processing machines.

The base system includes 16 MB of memory which can be expanded to 32, 64 or 128 MB, a floppy disk drive and a PCI bus-based VGA graphics accelerator that drives a monochrome monitor.

Configuration options include high performance ATA or Ultra SCSI hard disks, CD-ROM drives and multimedia hardware, tape or DAT drives for data backup, a range of normal and fast ethernet adapter, modems, large colour monitors and matching graphics accelerators.

The second new product from Nexus Computers is the 5AT6-MMX, a cost-effective personal computer system, based on 166 MHz Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology.

The MMX technology adds new multimedia capabilities to the processor, enabling the machine to process video, graphics and auto data much more efficiently.

The 5AT6-MMX will be offered in a network-ready configuration with a PCI bus-based ethernet adapter built in it.

The basic configuration will include 16 MB of memory expandable to 32 MB, 1.2 GB hard disk drive, a floppy disk drive, a mouse and PCI bus-based VGA adapter that drives a colour monitor. The system will be preloaded with Windows 95.

Mandeen said the company, which is a business partner of IBM, would, in association with Tata Information Systems Limited, offer the American Power Conversion products. It has begun marketing the latest IBM Aptiva "S" series and the Pentium 300GL entry level desk-top system.

She said the company logged a turnover of Rs 300 million last year, 25 per cent of which was through its IBM operations. For the current year, the turnover is targeted to reach Rs 500 million.
