Samsung to sell PCs in India

Samsung Electronics Company, the flagship company of the $92 billion Samsung Group of South Korea, plans to introduce PCs in India early next year and is looking at launching broadband CDMA machines in the global markets, including India, by mid 1998.

In India, Samsung will get software support for its 'code division multiple access', or CDMA, business from Samsung India Software Operations unit at Bangalore and will be working with strategic local partners for its CDMA business.

Samsung to sell PCs

Samsung Electronics has designated India as one of its four major strategic countries. It plans to establish here a localised management system, which is equipped to provide turnkey solutions.

Given the vastness of the country and the geographical barriers, it considers the CDMA-PCs and B-CDMA WLL, a technology for the next generation of communication.

The $19 billion company intends to be the world's top five manufacturers of multimedia telecommunications products by the 2005.

In an effort to improve its brand image, the company signed up as one of 'The Olympic Partners' in May to provide wireless communication for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Group launched the Samsung-Asian Games partnership programme in India with the Samsung Harmony Night, a cultural show held in New Delhi recently.

Samsung is the official partner of the 13th Asian Games to be held in December 1998 at Bangkok. It will be the official product provider (audio, video and home appliances) during the games.
