Net access rates will be reduced by December first weekA reduced 'interim' Internet tariff rate will be notified in the first week of December, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has said.In response to a proposal for Internet tariff reduction from the Telecom Commission, the TRAI will propose an interim tariff rate next month. The tariff will be finalised after open-house discussions with the parties concerned.
Recently, the TRAI released its second consultative paper on Internet pricing, incorporating the commission's suggestions on restructuring of Internet tariffs. In addition to reduction in tariffs from Rs 15,000 for 500 hours to Rs 10,000, supplementing the current annual 500 hours time slab, with 100 hours (for Rs 3,000) and 250 hours (for Rs 6,500) has also been suggested. Incremental subscription in steps of 20 hours each are proposed at a rate of Rs 30 per hour. Interested parties have been invited to forward their comments by December 1 to TRAI, which is responsible for notifying tariffs. - Compiled from the Indian media |
