Match-fixing report to be made public on Wednesday

Former England captain Alec Stewart and former West Indies captain Brian Lara along with seven other foreign cricketers have been named by bookies as being involved in match-fixing, Sports Minister S S Dhindsa said on Tuesday.

He said former Australian batsman Dean Jones is also named in the report, which was submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation to the government on Monday.

Talking to newsmen, Dhindsa said nothing was found against former Indian skipper Kapil Dev while another former captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been named in the report as having been involved.

Dhindsa said the report will be made public on Wednesday. The decision to make it public, he said, was taken at a meeting he had with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Delhi on Tuesday. He said the Prime Minister told him that the report should be made public.
