A round-up of the  third day's action of the Ranji Trophy Super League matches on Monday.

Makwana ensures innings victory for Saurashtra

Off-spinner Kamlesh Makwana took eight wickets to shoot out Rajasthan twice in a day and hand Saurashtra victory by an innings and 74 runs in their Elite Group A match in Rajkot.

In response to Saurashtra's first innings total of 344, Rajasthan resumed the day at 105 for five and folded up for 185.

They were asked to follow on and could manage just 85 in their second innings giving Saurashtra six crucial points, including a bonus.

For Rajasthan, Rajesh Bishnoi stood amid the ruins with a gritty unbeaten 67 in the first innings while Vinit Saxena (27) top-scored in the second essay.

However, the day belonged to Makwana as he made the visitors dance to his tune at the Madhav Rao Scindia Cricket Ground, scalping four for 74 runs in the first innings and four for 31 in the second.

Ravindra Jadeja (three for 36 and two for 27) and S Jobanputra (two for nine) were other successful wickettakers.

Brief scores: Saurashtra 344 (B Chauhan 114; C Pathak 88; Pankaj Singh 5 for 59, Gajendra 4 for 119) beat Rajasthan 185 (Rajesh Bishnoi 67 not out; Kamlesh Makwana 4 for 74; Ravindra Jadeja 3 for 36) and 85 (Vinit Saxena 27; Kamlesh Makwana 4 for 31; Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 27; S Jobanputra 2 for 9).

Trivedi, Makda steer Gujarat to 10-wkt win over Punjab

Bowlers Siddharth Trivedi and Ashraf Makda between them shared eight wickets and steered Gujarat to an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Punjab on the penultimate day of their Group A match in Ahmedabad.

Trivedi took five wickets, while Makda scalped three as the visitors were bundled out for 192 in the second innings.

Trivedi had scalped four wickets, while Makda bagged five in the first innings as Punjab continued their dismal performance in the second edition also. They had folded up for 137 in reply to Gujarat's first innings total of 300.

Resuming their second innings at 107 for 4 after being forced to follow on, Punjab were all out for 192.

Gujarat, needing just 30 runs to win the game, reached the target in the seventh over in mere 32 minutes. Nilesh Modi (14) and Bhavin Thaker (19) remained unbeaten in the second innings as the hosts reached 34 without loss.

For Punjab, Uday Kaul played a useful knock and made unbeaten 56 in 118 balls. He got good support from A Kakkar who scored 33 runs.

Together they put up 63 runs for the fifth wicket before Kakkar was caught by B Thaker off Trivedi. This was the highest partnership for Punjab in both innings.

With this outright victory, second one this season, Gujarat has gained six points.

Brief scores: Gujarat 300 and 30 for no loss beat Punjab 137 and 192 (Uday Kaul 56 not out, Siddharth Trivedi five for 43). 

Shrikhande century steadies Maharashtra

Ameya Shrikhande's century and a 174-run partnership for the second wicket with Rohan Bhogle helped Maharashtra reach 273 for six on the third day of their Elite Group B match against Baroda at the Motibag ground in Vadodara.

Shrikhande scored 114 while Bhogle made 69 as Maharashtra erased a first innings deficit of 77 runs and took a lead of 196 on the penultimate day.

The visitors suffered a bad start to their second innings after Irfan Pathan picked the first wicket with the scoreboard reading just four runs.

Bhogle and Shrikhande then came together and steadied the innings. Shrikhande scored an entertaining knock studded with 15 fours and one six.

Bhogle hit eight fours in his 168-ball knock. He failed to judge a delivery from Munaf Patel and was caught behind by wicketkeeper Pinal Shah.

Bhogle's departure triggered a collapse and it was only after Rohit Motwani and Digambar Waghmare came together that the innings got some stability.

The duo added 60 runs for the seventh wicket to take the total to 273.

Motwani was batting on 30 and Waghmare on 23 when play was called off.

For Baroda, spinner Rajesh Pawar was the most successful bowler claiming three wickets for 46 runs.

Brief scores: Maharashtra 228 and 273 for 6 (Ameya Shrikhande 114, Rohan Bhogle 67; Rajesh Pawar 3 for 46) vs Baroda 305.

Tamil Nadu makes 131 for one against Andhra 

Abhinav Mukund hit an unbeaten 72 while S Badrinath scored unbeaten 54 to help Tamil Nadu score 131 for one wickets in reply to Andhra's 283 all out on the penultimate day of the four-day Group B match in Vijayawada.

Resuming at 193 for three, Andra scored 92 runs more losing last seven wickets to post 283 in their first innings.

B Sumanth added 20 runs to his overnight score 70 while Captain Gnaneswara Rao, who was on 49 on Sunday, made 19 runs more on Monday.

However, after Gnaneswara Rao and Suman departed, Andhra lost track with V M Sai scoring 23 runs while M Suresh, D Kalyan Krishna, D P Vijaykumar and GVS Prasad failing to reach double figures.

Tamil Nadu's P Amarnath took three valuable wickets -- Gnaneswara Rao (62), V M Sai (23) and D Prabhu Kiran (11)-- for 67 runs while R Ashwin removed M Suresh, D Kalyankrishna and D P Vijay Kumar for 57 runs. L Balaji claimed two wickets of B Sumanth, A G Pradeep while C Ganapathy and C Suresh took one wicket each.

Tamil Nadu lost their first wicket for 11 runs, when opener M Vijay (0) was removed by Kalyan Krishna.

However, Mukund played sensibily and weaved a 120 runs partnership for the second wicket en route his 155-balls innings of 72, which included seven hits to fence and one six. Badrinath struck five four and one six in his unbeaten innings of 54.

UP lead Railways by 264

Piyush Chawla scalped five wickets while teammate Tanmay Srivastava hit an unbeaten half century as Uttar Pradesh took 264 runs lead against Railways after the penultimate day of their Group B match in New Delhi.

In reply to UP's first innings total of 356, Railways resumed at 118 for five but lost the remaining half for just 82 more to concede a first innings lead of 146 runs to Uttar Pradesh.

Chawla devoured the Railways' tail, returning with a magical spell of 20.5-6-33-5 as the visitors succumbed to 200 in 89.5 overs in their first innings.

Resuming from his overnight score of 50, Yere Goud added 28 more while his partner M Rawat added 11 more before being bowled by B Kumar at a score of 39.

Once Rawat was back into the hut, Chawla joined the party, dismissing the remaining four batsmen -- Raja Ali (15), M Kartik (12), Anureet Singh (2) and KS Parida (2) -- for 56 runs with Goud remaining unbeaten at an individual score of 78 on the other end.

In their second essay, UP had a relatively decent start but the host kept losing wickets with the only exception of opener Srivastava who scored a sedate 51 and was at the crease along with B Kumar when stumps were drawn here.

For Railways, Anureet Singh and Kulamani Parida combined and ripped through the top order, reducing the hosts to 110 for four.

Singh castled opener SS Shukla (8) and S K Raina (17), while Parida dismissed skipper M Kaif (4) and Parvinder Singh (8).

Brief scores: UP 356 and 118 for four (Tanmay Srivastava 51 not out) vs Railways 210 (Piyush Chawla five for 33).
