'That was the largest argument in favour of India'

Former Australia captain Greg Chappell reckons the Mumbai terror strikes would irrevocably change visiting players' perspective of India and they would feel just as vulnerable there as they generally believe in Pakistan.

"It will have a profound effect, I think, on cricket and where and how tournaments are conducted in the future, so it's going to be a challenging time for everybody involved," said Chappell, who had a tumultuous two-year stint as India coach.

Chappell said India was always perceived as a safe place by the visitors but after a number of foreign nationals lost their lives in Mumbai, the perspective is bound to change.

"I think that was the largest argument in favour of India, that there was a huge difference. In Pakistan westerners were being targeted and in India they're not, but that's changed, and from this day onwards there'll always be that thought.

"A lot of people will be giving some thought about how to progress from here and I would think most players will wait and see, but it's changed the landscape irrevocably now - players will look at India differently now than they have in the past," Chappell added.
