The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday promised statehood to Delhi, an anti-conversion law, issuing of multi-purpose I-cards and 'all-round development' to the capital's residents, seeking to appease all sections of the 'cosmopolitan' city.
In the 44-point manifesto released in New Delhi, the party promised an 'efficient, a transparent and corruption-free administration, the provision of housing, cleanliness, water, power, education, health and sports covering all sections, including women and senior citizens, if voted to power.'
The party promised to provide wheat at Rs 2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg to the poor.
Alleging 'inefficiency' and 'corruption' during the Sheila Dikshit government's tenure, the BJP promised an inquiry into 'cases of scams during the Congress rule.'
The party said it would throw out illegal Bangladeshis from Delhi and maintain a 'citizen's register' to prevent anti-nationals from staying in the capital.
''Citizens of Delhi will be issued multi-purpose identity cards. New entrants to the city from other parts of the country will be provided the cards after they submit their previous address," BJP General Secretary V K Malhotra said.
"The measure is not to prevent people from other parts of the country from settling down in Delhi but to stop illegal Pakistanis and Bangladeshis from staying here to carry out anti-national activities and burden the resources," he said.
