Low turnout was recorded in urban areas; rural localities witnessed brisk polling.
Heavy polling was witnessed in rural areas like Hastral, Najafgarh and Chawla village, Samalka, Nangal Dairy, Vasant Kunj and Bijwasan in Outer Delhi constituency, Kamala Nagar, Ramesh Park and Haveli Azam Khan in Chandni Chowk, Okhla Phase II and Janakpuri in Delhi Sadar.
Cases of voters not finding their names in the electoral list despite possessing voter identity cards and ration cards were also witnessed.
President A P J Kalam was one of the first persons to vote at a polling booth inside Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi constituency.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi voted at the Nirman Bhavan polling booth in New Delhi constituency. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the party's nominee for the seat Ajay Maken accompanied her.
Other prominent persons to cast their votes were Dikshit and Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurti.
