Women in Haryana turned out in record numbers for the first phase of assembly election in the state on February three.
The female voter turnout was 70.5 percent, the highest ever in the state since it went to polls in 1967.
In seven assembly constituencies more than 80 per cent women exercised their franchise. These constituencies are: Narwana -- 87.06 per cent, Rori -- 87.06 per cent, Chhachhrauli -- 84.68 per cent, Darba Kalan -- 84.18 per cent, Bhattu Kallan -- 83.17 per cent, Sadhaura -- 80.63 per cent and Pai -- 80.41 per cent.
In 1967, the women voter turnout was 69.6 per cent. In the 1968 assembly polls, 54.3 per cent women electors had exercised their franchise, followed by 67.1 per cent in 1972, 60.9 per cent in 1977 and 67.4 per cent in 1982.
