Five persons were killed and six, including a presiding officer, were injured in poll violence in Bihar as it went for the third and final phase of assembly election on Wednesday.
Election office sources said that till noon, the turnout was around 18-20 per cent in 93 constituencies in Bihar.
One person was killed when BSF jawans fired at booth-grabbers at Gosai village under Mokama police station in Patna district, police said.
Four persons were killed as crude bombs made by them went off at Balha-Basanta village in Lalganj assembly constituency of Vaishali district and Harnathpur village in Siwan district, the police said.
Two bombs went off near a booth at Brahampura locality in Muzaffarpur town while another bomb was hurled at Lalganj in Vaishali to intimidate the voters.
Defects in EVMs were initially reported from booths in Muzaffarpur, Chhapra, Hajipur, Bettiah, Gopalganj, Siwan, Motihari and even at a booth on the veterinary college campus here from where Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad and Chief Minister Rabri Devi were to cast ther votes. The machines were promptly rectified.
