Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan has been given the task of managing the Bihar assembly polls along with the state in-charge and BJP general secretary, Arun Jaitley.

The move comes as a rehabilitation of sorts as Mahajan was virtually sidelined after the party's debacle in the Maharashtra assembly election.

"For the proper conduct of elections and to ensure the party's victory, party president L K Advani has asked senior leaders Pramod Mahajan, Ananth Kumar and M L Khurana to campaign in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana respectively with state poll managers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Shivraj Singh Chauhan," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in New Delhi.

Mahajan will campaign for eight days in Bihar, followed by six days in Jharkhand and two days in Haryana, Naqvi added.

Naqvi said former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti would spend 20 days campaigning in Haryana and Jharkhand.

He added that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would campaign for four days in Haryana and Jharkhand while Advani would spend four days in Jharkhand and two days in Haryana.

Varun Gandhi would campaign for four days in Jharkhand and two in Haryana, added Naqvi.

Other leaders campaigning for the party include Murli Manohar Joshi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Kalyan Singh, V K Malhotra, Vasundhara Raje, Raman Singh, Babulal Gaur, Kalraj Mishra and Naqvi.
