The National Democratic Alliance on Tuesday asked Bihar Governor Buta Singh not to entertain the Rashtriya Janata Dal's claim that it will form the government.
An NDA delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party state president Gopal Narayan Singh and his Janata Dal-United counterpart Vijendra Yadav called on the governor and submitted a letter requesting him to decline if the RJD staked claim, as "an overwhelming majority of MLAs are dead against extending support to Lalu Prasad's party", BJP vice-president Sushil Kumar Modi said in Patna.
"We have also requested the governor that the NDA with 92 MLAs, besides assured support of 10 independents, is the obvious choice to be invited by him to form the government and prove the majority in the state assembly," he said.
He said the Lok Janshakti Party, Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and several independents were also averse to formation of an RJD-led government.
"We have also mentioned in our letter that more than 145 out of 243 MLAs are dead against formation of an RJD-led government and in the given situation, it will be unconstitutional to entertain RJD's claim," he said.
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party, which has four MLAs, told the governor that it would not support the RJD or NDA.
State president Dadan Singh to Raj Bhavan submitted a memorandum to this effect.
The RJD legislature party will meet in Patna in the afternoon to formally elect Rabri Devi as its leaders, party sources said.
