Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, who has been re-elected as the Bharatiya Janata Party legislature unit leader, has resigned from the chief minister's post.
According to Raj Bhavan sources, Munda's letter, submitted late on Monday night, was on Tuesday accepted by Governor Syed Sibtey Razi.
Munda has been asked to continue as caretaker chief minister till an alternative arrangement is made.
Munda is scheduled to meet the governor on Tuesday to stake claim to form the new government in the state.
None of the two major political combinations in the state -- the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led secular grouping -- have won a clear majority in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
