A R Rahman's tremendous success at the 81st Academy Awards has opened the world's eyes to Indian music. For Mumbai-based entrepreneur Vijay Nair, the timing couldn't have been better.
On March 9, at Blue Frog in Mumbai, Only Much Louder director Vijay was named the British Council's Young Music Entrepreneur 2009 (India). Last year, Vijay's partner at OML (Only Much Louder), Bobby Talwar, took home the award, making it two consecutive years Only Much Louder has won the trophy.
Under the OML umbrella exists other ventures, like music label Counter Culture Records, production house Babblefish Productions and the upcoming OML Digital, which is meant to "connect bands with their fans," according to Nair.
The British Council's Young Music Entrepreneur award promotes creative entrepreneurs working in the music industry by gathering together and showcasing in the UK those at the forefront of innovation, in the hopes of making the UK an international hub for music and the creative arts.
