Pivotals up on institutional buying; Nifty gains 12 points, 871.90
Pivotals firmed up on buying spree from institutions and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today. S&P CNX Nifty closed at 871.90 points as against the previous close of 859.80 points, showing a net gain of 12.1 points. CNX Nifty Junior finished at 1523.60 points over yesterday's close of 1499.05 points, gaining 24.55 points. S&P CNX Defty halted at 711.00 as compared to the previous close of 701.70 points. S&P CNX 500 closed at 600.11 points over the previous close of 591.62 points. CNX Midcap 200 settled at 533.27 points against yesterday's close of 525.25 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 12.08 billion involving 53.98 million in 191,039 trades. The total debenture traded value was Rs 1.5 million. About 63 securities hit their price bands while 567 advanced and 394 declined and 77 remained unchanged. The foreign institutional investors continued their selling spree as they sold Rs 156.07 million worth of shares as compared to their investment of Rs 67.45 million. On the contrary financial institutions/mutual funds invested Rs 170.47 million and sold Rs 58.57 million of shares. The top gainers were TVS Suzuki rose to Rs 475.8 from Rs 446.75, Thermax to Rs 207 from Rs 194.55, India Hotels to Rs 344.5 from Rs 325.80, Gujarat Ambuja Cement to Rs 185.5 from Rs 175.95 and ABB to Rs 478.15 from Rs 453.55. Among the losers were East India Hotel came down to Rs 192.15 from Rs 197.05, Asian Paints to Rs 303.15 from Rs 309.05, Colgate to Rs 200.10 from Rs 203.4, IPCL to Rs 48.25 from Rs 49 and HDFC to Rs 2556.45 from Rs 2592.65. The ITC recorded highest turnover of Rs 2.72 billion followed by Satyam Computers Rs 1.39 billion, Reliance Industries Rs 919.9 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 738 million, Pentafour Software Rs 657.8 million, SBI Rs 580 million, Tata Tea Rs 273.2 million, ACC Rs 227.6 million, Castrol Rs 220.4 million, MTNL Rs 196.6 million, BHEL Rs 196 million, Infosys Tech Rs 189.3 million, Dr Reddy's Rs 178.7 million, Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 175.4 million, Colgate Rs 166.3 million, HCL-HP Rs 165.2 million, Square D Software Rs 154.2 million, Telco Rs 154.1 million, L&T Rs 144.6 million, Rolta Rs 137.8 million, BPL Rs 133.1 million, BFL Software Rs 121.3 million, Hindustan Lever Rs 118.6 million, Silverline Rs 111.9 million and Novartis Rs 97.7 million. The wholesale debt market of NSE witnessed trades worth Rs 2.15 billion.
