Terrorist nabbed with explosives on the eve of Gujral's arrivalThe Jalandar police recovered a consignment of explosives from an arrested terrorist on the eve of Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral's visit to the constituency for his fourth and last leg of campaign beginning Wednesday. Police said the terrorist, whose identity is yet to be authenticated, was captured during a raid in Guru Mission chowk gurdwara in the city. He has revealed his links with the International Sikh Youth Federation. A dairy seized from him is believed to be 'a goldmine of information', and contains 'many names and pager and telephone numbers, including those of cellular phones, at home and abroad.' The captured consignment, of different explosives including RDX, also contained accessories like detonators. The ultra told the police that the consignment was delivered to him 10 days ago. However, he is yet to reveal his mission. Sources said it would take time to unearth the conspiracy which might have its 'roots in European countries like Germany, France and Britain, where ISYF activists are based'. The terrorist, they said, was claiming that he accepted money for hiding the consignment till somebody came to collect it. He also said that he had handed over Rs 50,000 to a man for the marriage of his daughter. His 'contacts' abroad, who sent him the money, had asked him to do so. The police, meanwhile, suspect that another consignment of explosives and accessories have reached Punjab. Searches are on for it, and they have taken 'suitable measures' in view of Gujral's presence in the constituency. UNI |
