Delhi's high-sitting man comes down to earth

Ashraf Jamal Khan, the man who had been staying atop a 200-feet microwave tower in New Delhi for the last seven days, finally decided to call it quits -- for the time being, at least.

Ashraf decided to climb down on his demand -- he wanted President K R Narayanan's intervention to get his 'abducted' wife released -- after the National Human Rights Commission promised to look into his grievance.

The youth touched ground safely at around 1345 hours on Thursday. He was suffering from dehydration and fever.

Ashraf spent a brief interval in the hospital before leaving for Varanasi, his hometown, with his parents.

NHRC officials said they took cognisance on the basis of press reports. They said they had not received any complaint from Ashraf as the youth claimed.

The Commission has asked Ashraf to produce all relevant papers, including his marriage certificate, before it on Tuesday.
