Surjeet, Mulayam see birth of third front soonThe Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha Thursday expressed confidence that a third front would take shape soon. This comes a day after the joint announcement of Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi that the front would take concrete shape after the forthcoming assembly elections. RLM chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, in touch with the CPI-M general secretary, hoped the reservations of the Left about the Rashtriya Janata Dal's entry into the front would be sorted out soon. "I am confident Surjeetji will come out with some solution,'' he said. Both Mulayam Singh and Surjeet are holding discussions, despite the Left's strong objection to Laloo Prasad Yadav's RJD. The RLM, meanwhile, holds that it will not join the front without its ''indispensable'' leader Laloo Yadav. Wednesday, after meeting Karunanidhi in New Delhi, Surjeet was positive about the matter. "The front," he said, "has become the need of the hour since the Bharatiya Janata Party government has let down the country." "We are talking to many political parties and things will take shape by next month," the CPI-M leader added. Asked about Laloo Yadav, Surjeet refused to discuss 'leaders who are in jail'. He asserted the Left would not permit the DMK government's dismissal. When Bihar government could not be dismissed, the question of clamping President's rule in Tamil Nadu did not arise, he said. The question of including the All Indian Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the proposed front did not arise, Surjeet added, reacting to reports that the Left was sponsoring a move wherein the AIADMK would help the Congress form a government at the Centre and the CPI-M and the DMK would extend outside support.
