Sundaram does it again!

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator P R Sundaram had the Vaishnavite symbol of namam on his forehead when he presented himself in the Tamil Nadu assembly Saturday.

Not very unusual for Sundaram, a man who has many times chosen attention seeking gimmicks to drive home his point. And, this time too, a point he had to drive home:

That the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was a turncoat and attempted to bail out the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government after opposing it all this while.

The namam, traditionally worn by the Vaishnavites, also signifies deception.

Most assembly members -- except, of course, those of the DMK - laughed and bore Sundaram's prank. But Speaker P T R Palanivel Rajan didn't find it very amusing. He called Sundaram to his chamber and sought an explanation.

Sundaram, may we remind you, had created quite a flutter in the House thrice before. The first time by wearing a cricket head-gear to convey that there no security to members in the House, the second by displaying a hangman's noose to highlight the plight of farmers and the third, which earned him a week's suspension, by displaying black cloth when Chief Minister M Karunanidhi presented the state budget on March 17.

This time, however, Sundaram escaped unhurt.
