Bhopal gas case to be expedited in JanuaryThe chief judicial magistrate will hold a day-to-day hearing from January 10 in the Bhopal gas tragedy case. L D Borasee, while hearing the 15-year-old case today, directed a day-to-day hearing for five days in view of the seriousness of the litigation, figuring nine accused, including Union Carbide Corporation and Union Carbide India Limited. Various non-governmental organisations working among the gas victims have been demanding early disposal of the criminal case on the disaster which had claimed thousands of lives when the toxic Methyl Iso-Cynate leaked from the UCIL's pesticide plant in Bhopal on December 2, 1984. Borasee, however, did not favour the Central Bureau of Investigation counsel R B Sharma's application seeking immediate day-to-day hearing saying it was not possible as the cases to be heard in the coming working days were already fixed and several cases were pending with the court.
