AIM Helps Indian and American MuslimsThe Association of Indian Muslims in America, which has 10 chapters across America, is exploring the possibility of opening new chapters in several cities in the next 12 months. "Ours is a non-profit, non-political and social organisation that helps not only expatriate Muslims from India but also fights for Muslims' rights in India," says Kaleem Kawaja, one of its directors. The organisation also focuses on the violation of human rights in India. AIM also helps educational efforts in Muslim communities in India, he adds, apart for helping to rehabilitate victims of communal riots. Established and incorporated in Washington DC in 1985, AIM has chapters in the following cities: Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Rochester, NY; Wayne, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Harrisburg, PA; Richmond, VA; Memphis, TN; Virginia Beach, VA. AIM has donated $ 50,000 to a number of educational institutions in Ahmedabad, Aligarh, Anand, Patna, Ranchi and other cities. It has also established a Minority Womens Polytechnic in Old Delhi to provide vocational training to poor Muslim women. AIM provides scholarships to needy/deserving Muslim students for courses in engineering, medicine, computer technology etc through Muslim organizations in India.
