Peacemaker Pays With His LifeA P Kamath in New York On Sundays, Mahase Lall would take his mother out for a walk, stop by the Hindu temple, and relax with his friends. But last Sunday, his friends came to his house to condole his mother, Lilawati Ramcharan and offer their prayers. Lall, 26, was killed on Saturday morning in a bar in Brooklyn when he tried to make peace between two men, reportedly Guyanese immigrants. Police officers were continuing questioning the patrons at the bar throughout Sunday to get clues about the arguing men. Police believe that when Lall stood between the two men when a fight was about to break and one of them took offense, pulled a pistol and shot him in the head. There were about 30 people in the bar. In the confusion following the shooting, the two combatants left the bar together. Lall died less than half an hour after he was rushed to a nearby hospital, police said. Lall migrated to the United States about eight years ago. A construction worker, he had planned to marry shortly, family friends said.
