CRY Literacy DriveR S Shankar in Atlanta Shefali Chandel, head of the All India Program Support Division of Child Relief and You, is the guest speaker at CRY meeting on December 1. The events start at 6.30 pm. She will talk on 'Literacy in India', and the initiative taken by NGOs to eradicate illiteracy. Chandel, who is visiting several other cities, has been with CRY since 1990, and is responsible for the growth of the organization in Delhi and Bangalore. She is currently responsible for strategy formulation, perspective- and capacity-building, national collaborations, strategic alliances, policy-influencing, and research efforts. She is also the member of the management committee that oversees all CRY operations in India. She is currently a prime mover in the convention of Non-Government Organizations for a National Alliance for Fundamental Right to Education. The convention is working to ensure the passage of the bill making free and compulsory education a fundamental right in India. The event is scheduled at Palace Indian restaurant, situated behind Copy King, 6131 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross. Admission costs $ 10, includes dinner.
