Army troops were deployed on Wednesday morning in the winter capital Jammu to enforce a round the clock curfew following the attack on the heavily guarded Jammu railway station on Tuesday evening.
In the aftermath of the killing, tension mounted in Jammu prompting the administration to impose indefinite curfew. A general alert has also been sounded in the city.
Police said eleven persons, including two security personnel and a militant, were killed in the Tuesday evening attack.
Of the 30 injured persons undergoing treatment in the various hospitals in Jammu, the condition of seven is stated to be critical.
Sources said the junior doctors in Jammu, who had been on a strike, had resumed their duties temporarily.
Sources said three militants came out of the Malwa Express when it reached the Jammu railway station and opened indiscriminate fire on the army personnel and passengers awaiting their trains on platform number one.
The army personnel on the platform engaged the militants in a gun battle and killed one militant while two others managed to escape in an auto-rickshaw.
Massive searches had been mounted to trace the two militants.
Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and senior police officials were to fly to Jammu on Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
No one has yet admitted responsibility for the attack.
