Despite reiterating support to the National Democratic Alliance at the Centre, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah did not meet the alliance convenor George Fernandes for clearing the misunderstanding over the central leadership's remarks implying lack of fairness in polls in the state.
Given certain uneasiness in relations with the NDA, party sources said Abdullah would like to await the alliance's proposed 'code of conduct' for allies before deciding his next move.
Abdullah, who gave vent to his anger over the remarks of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani over the fairness of polls, arrived in Delhi on August 28 evening amidst speculations about a meeting with Fernandes.
Fernandes had told reporters on Monday after a two-hour meeting of NDA that he would be meeting Abdullah and clear his misunderstanding on the statements made by the prime minister and the home minister.
Vajpayee, in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, had promised 'free and fair elections' in the state in future, and Advani subsequently said doubts had been cast about the fairness of the past elections, except those held in 1977 when Morarji Desai was the prime minister.
