India, US together in fighting terror: Blackwill

Expressing full solidarity with the government and people of India, the United States on Friday asserted that the two countries were together in the global struggle against terrorism.

''The tragic event that occurred on Thursday and perpetrated by terrorists was no different in its objective from the terror attacks in the US on September 11,'' US ambassador to India Robert Blackwill told reporters after witnessing the Lok Sabha proceedings.

He said US President George Bush had spoken to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday evening and expressed that conviction to him.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell also called External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh in this regard, he said

The American envoy said he came to Parliament to express his country's full solidarity with India and convey deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in Thursday's attack defending freedom and democracy.
