24 legislators held in MP

Twenty-four legislators were arrested and the House was adjourned for the day as Bharatiya Janata Party members tried to lock the official residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Monday, to protest against 'lawlessness' in the state.

Those arrested included Leader of the Opposition G S Shejwar.

The BJP members were demanding a discussion on an adjournment motion on the arrest of two party MLAs in Seoni district on Sunday night, who were demanding action against an official accused of ordering a police firing at Palari on February 1.

As the House assembled after lunch break, BJP members stuck to their demands despite two adjournments, forcing Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari to adjourn the House till Tuesday.

The members then, led by Shejwar, marched towards Singh's official residence at Shyamla hills.

The district administration deployed Rapid Action Force personnel in addition to regular policemen to contain the Opposition members, according to official sources.

The BJP members courted arrest at the CM's house.
