LeT ultra involved in Qasim Nagar carnage arrested: Police

Identifying the arrested terrorist as Mohammad Abdullah alias Abu Talah of Pakistan, police claimed he has confessed to his involvement in the killing of 29 people in Qasim Nagar on July 13.

The militant was arrested during a search operation in the forest area early on Saturday morning, Inspector General of Police P L Gupta told reporters.

On interrogation, Talah confessed that he, along with five heavily armed Pakistani terrorists, were 'launched' by the Pakistani army from the Tatapani sector of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) into the Poonch area a couple of months back after being imparted training, Gupta said.

After spending a couple of months in various areas of Poonch, Talah and Abu Idnam were handpicked by Abu Umar, the Pakistani commander of the LeT, to kill members of a particular community in Jammu with the aim of causing disturbances in India, he said.

After the Qasim Nagar carnage, Talah and Idnam took shelter in the nearby Raika forest awaiting an opportunity to escape to Poonch, Gupta said.

Idnam and a sub-inspector of police were killed and two constables injured on Friday in an encounter in the forest, which lies behind Qasim Nagar and Rajiv Nagar localities.

Idnam had, before his death, told police that he had lost contact with Talah after the Qasim Nagar attack.
