The Rajasthan police is investigating suspected links that the terrorists who attacked the American centre in Kolkata have in the desert state
Around a dozen people were rounded up in Jaipur and Jaisalmer after it was found that Jamaluddin Nasser, who was nabbed in Tiljala in eastern Kolkata on January 29 for allegedly sheltering the men who attacked the USIS office, and his associates visited Rajasthan.
The prime suspect being interrogated is a person living in the Muslim dominated area of Jalupura in Jaipur with whom Nasser's associates stayed for a few days in December last year.
Since Nasser is stated to be having links with Aftab Ansari, the man suspected of having masterminded the attack and who was extradited from Dubai a few days ago, authorities suspect that there might be an Inter-Services Intelligence network operating in the state.
The investigation has revealed that two associates of Nasser visited Jaipur and Jaisalmer as tourists and even purchased a second hand jeep during their last visit.
The police is trying to find out if they were here to meet ISI agents and establish a transit point for smuggled ammunitions from across the border.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajit Singh conceded that about 12 persons had been rounded up during investigations, but did not specify if the probe was connected to the attack on the American Centre.
No clue has been received from Delhi or Kolkata and we are making our own routine checks on terrorist links, he said.
